beata's knitting journal

What do I write in my knitting journal?
It's mostly just not very interesting knitting notes. Since I design most of HF patterns, it's usually that. Stitch counts and measurements and perhaps decreasing sequences.

Ideas or sketches. Needle sizes, yardage, yarns used.

Sometimes I need to keep track of changes made to patterns to make sure sleeves come out the same for instance.

I mostly knit with the same yarns and if I keep notes I can use the same needle/gauge for the same fit. The boyfriend likes one type of hat, so I don't ever have to swatch for that again, I just look through my notes. Boring, I know :)

I am working on 3 new designs though, one shawl, one scarf and a pair of socks, stay tuned!

  1. This is a great idea! I recently bought a journal for "design" ideas, but keeping track of yarns and the needles used is really smart. You have beautiful penmanship!

  2. What a great idea. After seeing your journal, I'm inspired to get myself a little moleskine journal to keep my knitting design notes. I end up with scraps of paper scribbled with notes, charts, and ideas. And sometimes they get lost before I can commit them to the computer.

  3. Thanks for sharing! I tried this before but don't get into the habit easily. Need to try again!

  4. It's SO handy! I can't be without my journal, all of my socks and sleeves would be different sizes. I carry it with my notions bag, so I always have it handy.
